Hot on the heels of the increase of fitness enthusiasts, the Zumba fitness routine gives men and women of various ages a diverse way of keeping their bodies fit and healthy. Zumba is a fitness exercises that focuses on resistance training as well as interval cardio training in the guise of Latin style beats and dance moves. The short exercises promote fat burning, calorie burning, and muscle toning easy and achievable. Body movement and swaying to the different Latin beats is the one of the basis of Zumba fitness, and it helps enthusiasts shed pounds while having fun.

About the Zumba Workout

Imagine a workout that has you dance Mambo, ChaCha, Calypso, Meringue, and Salsa. Add a bit of belly dancing, rock and roll, and some great tunes and you already have the center workout offered by the Zumba fitness DVD series.

The main ingredients in Zumba are the dance moves. You often feel as you are just dancing around to your heart's content, without a clue that the dances you are doing are part of a program that has been approved by the Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, American Council on Exercises and the Canadian Personal Trainer Association as a solidly made exercise routine.

History of Zumba fitness training style

Alberto "Beto" Perez is the main person whom many thank for this fitness phenomenon. One day, Perez, working as a fitness trainer, came into his class without having music planned for the session. In order to keep his class moving and participating, he ran off to his car and took out some of the personal Latin tunes that he already has. And the rest, as they say, is history. Latin style of dancing from the more popular dance routines combined with Latin tunes have made Zumba instructors and participants better dancers all over the world.

After that fateful day, Perez knew he had to branch out and improve his routines, and make the most of the accident that quickly rose in popularity. He researched about Zumba, dances, and music, then headed off to the United States where in 1999, Zumba was officially born.

Fun and Losing Weight

Zumba is all about fun plus the added benefit of calories burned. In a single Zumba fitness hour, each person is expected to burn around 1,000 calories, and all the while the participant sure feels like he or she is just having a blast at a party. Each of the moves can be cut down into smaller exercises that are idea to do when you have no time to spare.

Since Zumba covers almost all aspects of exercises, it is easy to see why a lot of people choose to do Zumba. One could only imagine a scenario where Latin beats and Latin moves are done in one room together with some rock and roll laughs. That is definitely not a scene that says "Workout". With Zumba, you never know that you are working out; instead you are just having fun, fun, fun!

Here are the five most important reasons why the dance workout techniques like Zumba have gained such favor:

1.They are an entertaining way to exercise, much more exciting than usual workouts.

2.They are a great form of cardio exercise; they improve circulation immensely.

3.They are a very effective method of aerobics.

4.They help you sweat in an entertaining way, which aids the digestive system and helps immensely in weight loss.

5.They help you unwind and act as a stress-buster.

I've been working out with Zumba Fitness for 2 weeks. I had a total knee replacement and have put on a substantial amount of weight because of the nature of my injury. I have always been active, but the injury to my knee and the surgery really "cramped my style". I have never had such a great time exercising! I don't feel like I'm exercising, and when I finish the workout, I want more!! I'll double up and do it again! I find myself doing the dance moves all day, and the music gets stuck in your head and just makes you happy!! In the past 2 weeks, I've lost a total of 12 pounds and really haven't changed the way I eat. I have never built up a sweat like I do with this and my muscles aren't sore after I work out. I just feel great!! This is the first exercise I've done that doesn't make my knee hurt. It's getting stronger-I can feel a difference in only two weeks. I want to lose about 60 pounds, and I'm down 12 with 48 to go! Thank you Beto and crew for everything!! This is the best money I've ever spent! It's worth every penny and for what you get I feel like I didn't spend a thing!! I love you guys!!!

The commercials make it look fun. Of course they continue to show the commercials 24 hours a day and don't even have any stock available. I placed an order 3 weeks ago with zumbafitness dot com (where they claim there's a "5-10 day" delay), then last week was told it would be another week or two but I was "at the front of the line" and then found out today it would be another 3 weeks before I would get it (and this is with paying for expedited shipping.) Considering that they flat out lie on their website, there's no way I'm going to wait another 3 weeks when it probably won't even come then. Very disappointed, going to try something else.

Try Zumba for Wii. I borrowed my sister's to try before I buy, or you can rent at your local video store that also rents games. Then you aren't spending the money to find out that you really don't like it.

Hi Disappointed. Is there any chance of getting a refund due to the delays of delivery of Zumba dvds? If so then check out www.zumbadvds.com. I have had no complaints from late delivery of product. I hope you give it one more go before throwing in the towel.

I have been a dancer for 30 year, I was an intenational ballroom & Latin competitor now a teacher I have watched the dvds for this trend and all I can say is what a rip off and to say anybody canteach it after a one day workshop is insane total rip off there is nothing new here that has not been done before.

  • Michi - September 4, 2010 8:15 AM

Agree with Adrian, there is nothing there that wasn't in the market before!!!

the only different is after a day course people are teachers!! why?? for us professional dancing is something else.

  • Lisa - September 30, 2010 1:16 PM

Its not the fact that anyone can teach it, but you can do it in the privacy of your own home and you don't have to pay a person to teach you you have it for life once you purchase it, if it helps to lose weight what do you have to lose!

I ordered this on QVC. I have not received it yet because they are not sending it out until February, but I am anxious to receive it. I love the fact that as Lisa states, you don't have to pay someone to teach you or pay to join a health club. Its nice to do it in the privacy of your own home.

I would just like to say that I LOVE ZUMBA!I think everyone should attend an actual zumba class versus the dvds. I have an amazing instuctor who keeps every workout high intensity. I burn between 800-1000 calories every workout and I continue burning calories long after I'm done. The classes are so much fun because you feed off the energy of all the people there. We have over 200 people in our monday night class. It truly is a party.

  • Fitness DVD - August 4, 2011 5:44 PM

Zumba provides you with a fantastic cardio workout. Like all fitness dvd workouts, warming up and down is critical before partaking in this form of exercise to minimise injury.

I hope you enjoy your Zumab workout as much as I have.
