How to Become a Physical Fitness Trainer
Know your skills and your attitude. The first step in knowing if becoming a trainer is right for you is to determine if you have the right attitude for it. Wanting to be fit or having a passion for working out is not enough to becoming a fitness trainer. You also need to have a set of character traits such as patience, tolerance and the eagerness to motivate and encourage your client. A good fitness trainer is also organized and disciplined.

Have a passion for working out. Most fitness trainers got into the job because they liked working out. Without the passion to work out you cannot have the fit and buff body that you need in order to help others work out. Looking fit is always a requirement when you are a fitness trainer. Not only will this send a positive message to your clients about your skills as a trainer, it also serves as a motivational tool for them to work out and lose weight so that they can get a fit and healthy body like you do.
Get Certified. Fitness trainers need to go through
training and education in order to work in gyms, resorts, spas and
corporate offices. You can seek out such organizations as the
American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise
or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. These offer
certification programs but may have requirements such as a high
school diploma, minimum age requirements, and in some, current CPR
certifications.
Market Yourself. Getting your name out there,
gaining contacts and building a client list is now easier to do
more than ever. With social networking you can send information
about your services through the internet. Joining gyms and fitness
clubs is also a good way to meet potential clients if you are
focused on a career as a private personal fitness trainer.
Becoming a fitness trainer is not easy but is very rewarding if
this is your passion. You need to have the passion for the
job, the passion for health and exercise and the physical
requirements needed to be a good physical fitness trainer and a
good role model.
