Choosing The Right Weight Lifting Equipment
September 24, 2010 0 CommentsWhen choosing weight
lifting equipment there are numerous factors to consider. The first
is your budget as this will affect what you will be able to
purchase. The next is the physical space you have available in your
home. You may be lucky to have a spare room to store the equipment
but if not you should carefully plan where you intend to put
it.
There are things to consider before you purchase the equipment. The
first issue is the space you have in your home. If there is not
enough room to house a Smith machine or a barbell then you may find
it easier to purchase some dumbbells.
It is probably best to start with lighter plastic dumbbells and
work your way up to the heavier and more expensive metal dumbbells.
Some dumbbells are also adjustable, allowing you to add weights as
you become more confident. If you are worried about potential
strain you can get a pair with rubber grips.
If you want a varied exercise regime and do not have the space for
a full sized machine then you may want to invest in a pair of
dumbbells. You can get metal or plastic variations of varying
weights. If you are starting a new regime it may be best to use a
lighter plastic weight and build up to using a heavier metal
set.
Alternatively, you can use barbells with a lot of the same
exercises performed on a Smith machine. Like dumbbells they may be
a better alternative in terms of space. In the same way it is also
best to add weights as you become more confident.
If you are worried about causing injury to yourself when lifting
weights there are a number of accessories that can help you.
Wearing gloves will help you avoid getting blisters on your hands,
while a belt can help support your body while lifting and reducing
the risk of injury. However it is important to apply these things
properly or you are more likely to cause yourself harm in the long
term.
When choosing weight lifting equipment it is vital to be realistic.
While you want to challenge yourself, overburdening yourself
physically will cause injury and do more harm than good. If you are
unsure how to use weight lifting equipment you should look online
to see physical demonstration of each exercise. If you are still in
any doubt, contact a local fitness instructor for more
information.
