Mountain Climber Exercise Review
December 6, 2011 0 CommentsMountain climber
exercises are considered a total workout for the
body. As the name suggests, these have been used in preparation for
intense mountain climbing activities. The focus of the exercise is
on core muscles, involving areas such as the arms, thighs, and abs.
The exercise entails vigorous activities, and is designed to mimic
the feeling of climbing elevated slopes.

Type of
Exercise
A mountain climber exercise is classified under the calisthenics
type. These types of exercises involve the whole body. While
working with the cardiovascular system, it also builds strength in
the shoulders, legs, and core muscles. In a way, mountain climber
exercise is a combination of both anaerobic and aerobic
activities.
Benefits of Mountain Climber
Exercise
Mountain climbing exercises may involve a more intense workout, but
these can give off several benefits.
A sequence of steps may already complete a core strength training
program. Individuals can derive the same benefit from climbing a
mountain, without the harsh conditions such oxygen deprivation or
extreme weather. Moreover, it is one of the fastest ways to build
washboard abs.
Completing the Mountain Climber
Exercise
With the arm straight, assume a push-up position. The balls of the
feet should be touching the floor. Slowly lift the left knee
towards the right arm, and go back to the original push-up
position. Repeat the exercise with the right knee towards the left
arm instead. The legs should be alternating with each repetition.
One cycle is composed of a series of five repetitions. There have
been variations developed to increase the intensity of the
exercise. The right knee can reach for the right arm instead, and
the exercise must be performed within 20-25 seconds. Others combine
the basics with duck walks, which involve jumping forward and land
in a squatting position.
Is the Mountain Climber
Exercise for every one?
A mountain climber exercise is a type of
high-intensity activity. Individuals planning to perform this
exercise must make sure that they supplement it with a healthy,
balanced diet. A good thing about this whole-body workout is its
versatility. The steps may be gradually followed until the best
technique is applied. The full-body exercise is also considered a
deep core activity. Most individuals have weak deep core muscles.
It may be necessary to develop the deep core muscles before
progressing to the more vigorous mountain climber exercise.1
Furthermore; individuals must ensure that they have a good back. A
series of strength-training back exercises must be performed
beforehand.
